A total of 2,235 deceased individuals' brain tissue samples are available.
Most of our samples are whole brains sectioned in coronal plane and preserved in formalin.
From majority of these cases, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue blocks were prepared from well-documented, specific brain regions.
For each brain, we have compiled the most essential data required for research purposes, which include the following:
Gender
Age at death
Main diagnosis of last hospital admission
Clinically known base diseases (hypertonia, diabetes mellitus, cancer, psychiatric disorder, dementia, parkinsonism, heart diseases, etc.)
Days spent in hospital to death
Clinically reason of death
Post-mortem time (from death till brain fixation in formalin)
General body autopsy revealed diseases (with special attention to cancers, thromboembolic complications, infections, chronic diseases)
Pathological reason of death
Brain autopsy findings (macroscopic, and if available microscopic alterations)
These data are readily available upon request. Additional parameters (e.g., laboratory tests, imaging studies) can be retrieved upon individual request.
Disease spectrum of samples:
1,083 cases of ischemic stroke
476 cases of hemorrhagic stroke
105 cases of subarachnoid hemorrhage
103 cases of epilepsy without brain alteration
93 cases of parkinsonism
78 cases of metastatic brain tumors
73 cases of dementia
62 cases of primary brain tumors
38 cases of depression
21 cases of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
19 cases of meningoencephalitis
10 cases of schizophrenia
7 cases of meningeal carcinomatosis
2 cases of bipolar disorder
Other cases not classified under the above categories.
If you are conducting research related to the previously mentioned diseases and require human brain tissue for your work, please do not hesitate to contact us. Access to our database needs prior arrengement. Details can be found in Sample Request section.
